The client was struggling and frustrated with a difficult and seemingly intractable marketing challenge. Traditional brainstorming and problem solving approaches had produced little. The meeting threatened to end again with no tangible results.

What was happening?  What did it look like?  What were you feeling?  What sounds were you aware of?

The client resisted for a moment, then, since nothing else had worked, tried it. There was a moments silence and I asked “what was different then from now?  How can we apply what was happening there to our current situation?”

The client began to describe the earlier time and within moments the atmosphere in the room filled with excitement as whole new approaches to marketing their company developed…
